Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
This collection consists of materials relating to the uniform and personal equipment of a soldier of the U.S. Army in World War I. In addition there are maps of the areas of operations and an artillery barrage chart for the Reymonville area, 1 November 1918.
Red piping on the garrison cap indicates Artillery. Shoulder patch is First Army. Collar devices indicate Regular Army, 18th Infantry Regiment, Company D. Chevrons on sleeve indicate 1 year Overseas Service (1 chevron for each six months). Shoulder cord is French Fourragere, given to a person or unit as a commendation, number of commendations are shown by various combinations of cords on the fourragere, in this case probably two unit commendations.
Ribbons: blue/white/red (unidentified). Next, probably Certificate of Merit, US Army, Final: Purple Heart. Grade is likely that of Private, since there are no rank indications on sleeves.
