Scope and Contents

From the Collection: This collection is made up of assorted materials associated with the Institute of Biosciences and Bioengineering. It includes detailed information about the building occupied by the IBB, George R. Brown Hall: the planning, fund raising, donors, and apportioning of space. The collection also includes a twenty-year summary report for the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, ending June 30, 1992. Additionally the collection includes the 1996 final proposal for a National Space Biomedical Research Institute, in which Rice is listed as a consortium member. A VHS cassette recording Charles Duncan and President George Rupp at the Nov. 22, 1988 news conference about dedication of George R. Brown and Alice Pratt Brown Halls is also included.

The second of two boxes in the collection contains three large broadcast videocassettes on which the 1994 DeLange conference was recorded. The title of the conference, organized by Rice faculty Larry V. McIntire and Fred Rudolph, is Biotechnology, Science, Engineering, and Ethical Challenges for the 21st Century. The individual distinguished scientists whose presentations are on the tapes are Larry V..McIntire, Michael Shuler, Eric Tomlinson, Anna Marie Skalka, Alex Wlodawer, and Daniel E. Koshland, Jr.
